Hey baby your man is here
The one that use to calm your fear
Your wry grin of him is now a sneer
What about him do you hate
That you used to love?

Once a touch gentle and caressing
is now like static and depressing
A voice that soothed, now grates
What about him do you hate
That you used to love?

Is his presence a reminder
of the dreams and visions finer
from a youger day and age
what you thought would come to be?

And now all that's come to pass
is an ordinary life you swore
would never darken your future door

Your man just seems to cast
a dark shadow along the past
the future's not the shining path
you thought you'd have before you.

Or is he a mirror of your dreams
reflecting back
all that you have seen
the stark contrast
of what you want and what you have.

Life's not dark, with friends and kids
Their focus leaves you spread quite thin
is there anything left to give your man?

The longing looks
the frustrated sighs
the feigned indifference to the slide
masks an ache and sadness
He asks himself,
What about him do you hate
Yet he comes home to be with you

He knows he's not the noble knight
with work, toil, business strife
which take from him
what wants to give to you
Yet he come home
night after night
to be with you
for solace and respite

Both sides waiting for the other
with a chasam of small talk
to hide behind
